Private Enrichment & Tutoring

Enrichment:

For students K-5
Parents may choose 1-3 subject areas for enrichment: Reading, Math or Writing.
Parents may choose 45 min., 60 min., or 90 minute sessions.
Your child will be given an assessment during their first visit to assess what level they are on so that individual lessons will meet their needs.

Benefits of Enrichment & Tutoring

Benefits of Private Enrichment: Enrichment can be so much fun for your child and has many benefits. Your child will first be given an assessment to check their current level of mastery in the subject area or areas that you have chosen for them. Then Amy will be designing lessons for them that will be fun and challenging at the same time. Enrichment helps your child to get ready for the next grade level and gain confidence. Your child will have fun exploring different subject areas in game format and hands-on learning.

Benefits of Private Tutoring: Often times students may struggle in a classroom setting. Many students are not reading on grade level or have had a hard time with math. Private one-on-one tutoring is so beneficial because your child will be given an initial assessment to determine their specific needs. Private tutoring sessions can be offered for one or more subject areas. After your child is assessed and subject areas are targeted, your child will be working with Amy (our president and academic child consultant) on lessons that are specifically created to met their individual needs. Amy and your child will work on targeted subject areas at an appropriate speed. If you only want your child to come to tutoring once a week, Amy can train you so that you can reinforce at home what Amy is teaching your child in her classroom. Take home activities will be sent home weekly for you and your child to work together. Amy will show you ways to make the activities fun for your child. Your child will be able to gain the confidence they need to become successful again!

Amy Zapf

Academic Child Consultant

Amy Zapf is the President and Academic Child Consultant of Interactive Counseling. She received her BSIS from Stephen F. Austin University. Her certification is in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She specialized in reading and is trained in reading recovery. Amy's certification and extensive training enables her to teach Pre-K through 6th grade in all subject areas. She taught in Northside ISD for 6 years and was honored as a First Year Teacher of the Year. During her second year of teaching, Amy opened Interactive Counseling. Amy enjoys teaching and making a difference in the lives of her students. She has worked with Boerne ISD, Comfort ISD, and Northside ISD students, teachers, and parents for 9 years. During the 9 years she has owned Interactive, she has worked with autistic, dyslexic, dysgraphic, gifted and talented, ADHD, ADD, high average performing, and low average performing students. Amy enjoys working with all children no matter what kind of student they are. She loves helping parents make a difference in their child's life also.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Does my child need to come more than once a week? No, not if the parent is willing to help at home and do assignments that Amy feels would benefit your child.

2. What is the difference between enrichment and tutoring? Enrichment is for students who need to be challenged and are ready to excel to the next grade level in reading and math.

Tutoring is for students who struggled all year to make passing grades, not reading on grade level, struggled in math and may have lost self-esteem.

3. What if my child does not want to come to tutoring? Usually after 1 or 2 times of coming, most students beg their parents to bring them back. Amy makes the experience fun for them and keeps them very engaged. Most all activities are hands-on.

4. How do I know if I need my child to come for 45 min, 60 min, or 90 min.?That depends on how many subject areas your child needs to work on. If they only need help or enrichment in 1 subject area, than 45 minutes is appropriate. If they need help with 2 subject areas, than 60 minutes is necessary to appropriately instruct them. If your child needs help with 3 or more subject areas, then 90 minutes. is highly recommended.

5. What days are available for Tutoring? Right now only Monday and Tuesdays have open slot times for enrichment or tutoring.

6. Do you guarantee that my child will get to the next level by a certain time?Every child is different and every child's brain has developed differently from the next child. It would be dishonest to promise academic growth by a certain amount of time.
